For the Backcountry & Life: Comms Build Confidence
SUMMIT OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP
We exist to prepare people for purpose using TRUTH, ADVENTURE, & LEADERSHIP.
For the Backcountry & Life:
Comms Build Confidence
I just returned from a 6-day men's ministry backpacking trip in Colorado...
The morning we set out, a wildfire broke out nearby, and I felt my anxiety rise. My natural instinct was to take control: check fire reports, plan evacuation routes, manage the risks myself... but I wasn't leading this trip. Instead, I had trust the ministry guides Summit is partnering with for work in Colorado.
Trust, but verify.
Once I was confident there were solid communication systems, a clear plan in place, and wise leaders, I was freed up to enter the wilderness with my guard down, ready to be fully present with these the men and minister to them. We had a beautiful trip!
That moment reminded me that leadership isn’t always about being in charge—it’s about communication, trust, and equipping others to carry the responsibility well.
At SUMMIT Outdoor Leadership, this is what we prepare people for: to live with purpose.
Ready to lead, follow, & serve others.
Through outdoor adventure & experiential training rooted in the Word of God, we create opportunities for transformation that last far beyond the trail or classroom.

If you want to hear more of this story, I shared it yesterday at Calvary Baptist Church Smithville, while teaching on the Armor of God (Ephesians 6).

PS: Speaking of "communication" ...I know I'm not great at sending regular updates, but please give a huge welcome to Sarah Pylant & Jill Lake, who joined the SUMMIT team over the Summer. I am thankful for the difference they are already making in our communication!
