Men’s Ministry Kayak Trip
CALVARY MEN'S PADDLE
Great trip on the Colorado River (TX) today with a dozen men from Calvary Baptist Church Smithville!
We saw sandstone cliffs, watched a great blue heron, petted a spotted gar, and took turns jumping from a rope swing.
Before heading out, we asked the kayakers to keep their eyes open along the way to find one example of healthy tree and one example of a tree barely clinging to life.
At a pause in the shade, the men shared details about the things they observed, recalling specific details of the trees they spotted.
Then we read Psalm 1, discussing what it means to be "like a tree planted by streams of (living) water." A great discussion followed of what keeps us healthy and encourages our growth.
People were quick to point out analogies of their tree observations, such as one oak that looked healthy on the outside but was being undermined by its location on an undercut cliff edge, or mighty sycamores that actually have the their trunks strengthened by being pushed and bent by flood waters when they are young, provided they are rooted deeply and maintain access to water.
After finishing up in view of the iconic Smithville water tower, the crew chowed down on the best new BBQ in the state of Texas, Bubby's BBQ. Big thanks to pitmaster Jay, for delicious brisket and "Texas Twinkies."
Summit offers adventurous outings with a purpose.
Providing logistics support such as shuttles, rental kayaks & PFDs, makes a trip like this doable (and EASY) for a church like Calvary Smithville.
But the real difference is having a guide on the expedition who not just safety support, but also crafting a program that will make a difference.
We will work with you to understand what you’re trying to accomplish within the individuals that make up your group and develop a deeply-impactful outdoor program!
